- Lightning and heavy rains have killed at least 36 people across Pakistan in the past three days, mainly farmers in the eastern Punjab province. (NPR)
- East Africa is experiencing torrential rains for two weeks. Over 125,000 people are affected in the coastal area by floods. Fifty-eight people have been killed in Tanzania and another 13 people in Kenya. Tanzania announces plans to construct fourteen dams to prevent such disasters in the future. (AP)
- A magnitude 6.5 earthquake strikes West New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea. No damage or casualties are reported. (ABC News)
