  • It is announced that at least 18 people have been killed in the past two weeks by toxic chemicals from factories in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. (Al Jazeera)
• A Russian Mi-8 helicopter of the {{ill|"Rossiya" special flight squad|ru|Специальный лётный отряд «Россия»}}, which transports members of the government and armed forces, crashes at Vnukovo airport. According to some reports there are injuries, with TASS reporting that pilot error is the main cause of the helicopter crash. (RTVI)

  • South Africa agrees to send 12 cheetahs to India a year for the next eight to ten years to help establish a "viable and secure cheetah population" in the wild. The Asiatic cheetah became extinct in India in the 1940s due to hunting and habitat destruction. (BBC News)
