A man and a woman crashed into an alligator-infested retention pond on Friday in Miami-Dade County.
One of them died, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
The two were in a blue Toyota traveling southbound on the Florida Turnpike. The driver lost control at the exit ramp to Southwest Eighth Street.
Good Samaritans and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue divers jumped into the murky water.
A child restraint in the van’s backseat prompted the divers to search for children, as police snipers watched out for alligators. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers also responded.
Fire Rescue personnel took the man and the woman to the HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, formerly the Kendall Regional Medical Center.
