Your A/C is probably working overtime lately. We don’t have to tell you that it is HOT in Houston. Is there enough power to go around? Could we have blackouts? We are looking into this.

Other team highlights this week:

  • New details about what was going on behind the scenes during the Uvalde shooting
  • A possible solution to the paper license plate problem
  • What you need to know if you are bumped from a flight

Police response during Uvalde shooting

We will never forget the mass murders that happened in Uvalde and we will not stop asking questions about what happened during the attack. Each week it seems like new details are coming out.

This week the state House committee investigating the response to the shootings heard testimony from responding law enforcement officers. Testimony is held behind closed doors, meaning victims’ families, Uvalde community members, and the media are not allowed to hear what is said.

However, KPRC 2 Investigates has learned more about how the police responded, which is described as a “complete breakdown of command control” by one state senator. Investigator Robert Arnold and Joel Eisenbaum teamed up to bring the latest on this.

Power grid concerns

Again this week, we’ve broken the record for electricity usage in a day. All of this 100-plus degree heat has people concerned about the state’s power grid keeping up with the demand. You may remember when the February 2021 freeze left millions in the dark after the state power grid couldn’t keep up. So, can the grid handle the heat? See what Investigator Joel Eisenbaum found.

Solution to fraudulent paper plate problem?

KPRC2 Investigates possible solution to fake paper plates in Texas.

We are revealing a possible solution to Texas’ fraudulent paper plate problem. KPRC 2 Investigates first exposed our state’s fraudulent paper tag system and the lax oversight of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles more than a year ago. Now, one local security expert is pitching a possible solution to the state. Investigator Amy Davis shows us this interesting proposal.

Canceled and changed flights

The summer travel season is shaping up to be a messy one. Both overbooked and canceled flights have airlines feeling the heat. If an airline is overbooked, can they make you change your flight? What should you get if you volunteer to get off the flight? Investigator Amy Davis and producer Andrea Slaydon have what you need to know before you take your next flight.

Do you have any ideas for our team? Or a problem you need help solving? Send us your news tips here.
