| BALTIMORE ââ¬â A gunman linked to three shootings Saturday afternoon in Baltimore was fatally shot by an off-duty police officer. An off-duty Baltimore City police sergeant fatally shot an assailant who opened fire in a barbershop, killing a barber, Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said. Harrison said an off-duty police sergeant in plainclothes was getting a haircut when an assailant came in and shot a barber. The barber who was shot, identified as Rafael Jeffers, 33, and the assailant, identified as Carlos Ortega, 33, died at the scene. The sergeant was not injured. Two other shootings earlier in the afternoon are connected to the shooting at the barbershop. Harrison said an assailant was involved in an argument and shot someone shortly after 2 p.m. on East Oliver Street. That victim is in critical condition at a hospital. Harrison said the assailant then got into a car and drove to Eastern Avenue, where he got into an argument with another person and shot that person, who died.
