The Spring Branch ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved a 3% pay increase for all employees in the district as part of the $357.5 million budget for the 2023 fiscal year. Trustees also approved starting teacher pay for 2022-2023 of $62,000, the district said in a news release Tuesday.
The district said the raises come in addition to the mid-year pay changes for some positions and an employee retention stipend of $2,000 for full-time employees and $1,000 for part-time employees (paid over two years- the first installment of which was paid on June 16), funded through ESSER and other pandemic-related federal funds.
“I’m very pleased that the Board approved the pay increases for our teachers as part of our budget,” SBISD Board President Chris Earnest is quoted saying in the news release. “We appreciate our teachers so much and are happy to make this investment in them. Our aim is to attract and retain the very best and to do that we must remain among the highest paying districts in our region.”
Trustees also approved increases to extra-duty stipends in what the district described as “several high-needs areas.”
In addition, the trustees approved the addition of three Wellness Days for SBISD employees in the 2022-2023 school year for “health-related needs and self-care.”
“I have continuously witnessed our employees’ tireless work and commitment to ensure that Every Child in SBISD thrives and has the tools needed to succeed,” said Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Blaine. “I am thankful to our Board of Trustees for recognizing and assuring SBISD employees remain among the best-paid school district employees in our region.”
