[QUOTE="WPLG, post: 58986, member: 158"] Plantation’s Central Park is hosting an event that’s a first for the city. It’s Plantation’s National Night Out. Plantation Police Chief Howard Harrison said he was hoping the community would come out and interact with law enforcement. “A lot of work has gone into this,” Harrison said. “This is our opportunity to engage the community.” It’s a chance for residents to see how law enforcement works. Whether that means talking to the detective bureau or the traffic unit, or learning more about the crime scene tech or the crisis response team. There are also lots of vendors on site, a rock climbing wall and even a dunk talk, where residents had the chance to possibly embarrass their favorite police officer. “Being a part of the community is what it’s all about,” said Harrison. “It’s a partnership. We can’t do what we do without the community’s help.” Firefighters will also be on hand and will show off some of their state-of-the-art equipment and use it to dismantle a car. “We’re firefighters. We’re very good at breaking things,” said Plantation Fire Department Lt. Aston Bright. “These cordless extraction tools have a tremendous amount of power, in order to make this car seem like its paper and cut right through it.” They want people to see how an extrication works. It is unfortunately a reality they deal with when it comes to rescuing people. “It’s important for the public to know and understand the capabilities that we have just in case they have an unfortunate incident where they’re in an accident,” said Bright.
