Houston is growing and some of those growing pains can be felt at the gas pump and when driving down congested streets. A new program is being tested in Houston to save money on rideshares. In partnership with Uber, the Greater Southeast Management District launched a program during Memorial Day weekend to help solve traffic concerns and keep Houston on the move. This new rideshare program will be easy on pockets and help fix a big parking problem. “So in this particular neighborhood, we manage the parking during the day with timing. You can’t park longer than two hours in residential areas. After 8 p.m., there’s no parking except for residents on residential streets. So you could be towed, you could be cited, so that free parking space may have looked really great, but once you leave your car may have been towed, or cited, and it can get really expensive,” said Maria Irshad with ParkHouston. To address the parking challenges, ParkHouston started implementing the Community Parking Program in October 2021. Here are the program details:

Residential Quiet Zones: No Parking on residential streets after 8 p.m. except with a valid permit
2-Hour time limits, Monday - Sunday, 9 a.m. - 8 p.m.
Restrictions will only be at the curb space adjacent to residential properties
The new rideshare voucher program is in partnership with Uber, and is in effect on Thursday evenings at 4 p.m. and ends Monday mornings at 3 a.m. It’ll discount up to $2 off each trip, and you can get picked up anywhere inside the loop, but you must be dropped off within the boundaries of Houston Southeast. All you have to do is enter a code. Here is the information:

Houston SE Rides Program: Valid May 30, 12:00 a.m. - Nov 25, 12:00 a.m. EST
Link- https://r.uber.com/rdJgD6HaRRg
Code- rdJgD6HaRRg
Continue reading...
