Shortly after Local 10 News aired a story about the anguish that a 20-year-old murder victim’s family is feeling amid the uncertainty of not knowing who her killer was, the Broward Sheriff’s Office reported on Tuesday evening the case was closed. Deputies identified a suspect in last year’s fatal shooting of Alaysia Hart in Broward County, but he died in Miami-Dade County before BSO deputies could arrest him for murder. Fire Rescue personnel pronounced Hart dead after a shooting on Feb. 21 at the Exxon gas station, at 220 S. Dixie Hwy., in Pompano Beach. Alaysia’s grandmother Zoraida Rosado said she wants justice. “I have cried every day for 16 months. I wake up. I see her pictures,” Rosado said adding, “Calls and calls and calls, and they never return the phone call. There’s no justice; there’s no closure.” After hearing Rosado’s questions about the case, Veda Coleman-Wright, a spokeswoman for BSO, said the case was closed months ago. There was a warrant for Anthony Eason’s arrest in the case. The Miami Police Department later reported Eason was shot on July 4, 2021, just west of Overtown and he died at Jackson Memorial Hospital on July 16 of complications with gunshot wounds. Records show that had Eason survived, he would have faced charges of manslaughter, attempted manslaughter, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
