- The Shoei Kisen Kaisha-owned cargo ship Fremantle Highway with around 3,000 cars, en route from Germany to Egypt, is on fire near Ameland, the Netherlands. One person is killed; the other 22 people who were on board are injured. It is expected that the fire will take several days to extinguish. The ship is listing and a salvage operation needs to be carried out. (NOS)
