The city of Katy has issued a mandatory water restriction for residents as the city is now in Stage 3 Severe Drought Conditions.
The mandatory water restrictions go into effect immediately based on the City’s Drought Contingency Plan.
Watering is limited to two days a week, between midnight to 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. Residents can only water on assigned days and no watering on Mondays, according to the city.
According to the city’s website, under the Stage 3 severe drought plan, the mayor can set a goal for greater water use reduction and can order the implementation of any of the actions listed below, as deemed necessary:

- Continue or initiate any actions available under Stages 1 and 2.
- Implement viable alternative water supply strategies.
- Discontinue city government water use for landscape irrigation, except as needed to prevent foundation damage and preserve new plantings.
- Initiate mandatory water use restrictions as follows: - Prohibit hosing of paved areas, buildings, windows, and any hard-surfaced areas. - Prohibit operation of ornamental fountains. - Prohibit washing or rinsing of vehicles by hose. - Prohibit using water in such a manner as to allow runoff or other waste.
- Limit landscape watering at each service address to twice per week between the hours of 12 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 8 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. (based on the last digit of the address as defined in Table 13.10b below).
- Prohibit draining and filling of existing pools and filling of new pools. (Pools may add water to replace losses during normal use.)
- Prohibit the establishment of new landscaping.
