Get ready for a major closure next week for drivers who want to head northbound or southbound over the Brickell Avenue Bridge. The good news is that it won’t affect daytime traffic, but the bad news is anyone wanting to travel over the bridge past 9 p.m. will have to find an alternate route. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is closing both lanes of the bridge (SR90/US 41) beginning Tuesday, June 28 through Friday, July 1 and again from Tuesday, July 5 through Thursday, July 7 for maintenance. Hours are from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on those days. Boating traffic won’t be detoured. Here are detours to help drivers get around the shutdown. Drivers south of the Brickell Bridge who want to go north should go west on SW 7 Street, turn north on SW 2 Avenue, then turn east on SW 1 Street to get to SR 5/Biscayne Blvd. Drivers north of the Brickell Bridge who want to go south should go west on SE 2 Street, turn south on S. Miami Avenue then South Miami Avenue will become SW 1 Avenue at SW 7 Street. Then drivers should go south on SW 1 Avenue to SW 8 Street and turn east on SW 8 Street to get to Brickell Avenue. Real-time traffic and lane-closure info can be found at www.fl511.com.
