When driving into Bush Intercontinental Airport, expect to see a lot of changes.
Travelers like Martin Carnie said it’s not ideal. He’s now planning ahead when traveling internationally.
“It can take you almost an hour just to circle in and out of the airport,” he said.
A $1.3 billion construction project to combine Terminals D and E is leading to congested roadways outside of Terminal E.
KPRC 2 viewers reached out to us to investigate the issue.
“At this moment, we’re still on track to complete this project in 2024,” Augusto Bernal, PIO Houston Airports said.
Bernal said they can feel the frustration.
“There’s something really specific about the congestion we are seeing right now, it’s the peak travel times in the afternoon,” he said. “So, say between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.”
Their advice is to pack your patience and allow at least an extra hour when traveling to or from Terminal E.
“It feels like it’s been forever,” another man said.
For travelers in search of another option, you can look for the escalator and head underground where there’s a subway to other terminals.
“The curbsides at the airport are active loading zones only,” Bernal said. “You’re not going to be able to leave your vehicle there or wait for your loved one.”
He said the airport has added stoplights ahead of the Terminal E entrance. Bernal also said the best way to stay up to date on changes is to check their social media pages.
