Police in Broward County are searching for the driver they say struck and killed a bicyclist last week.
According to Fort Lauderdale police, officers and rescue workers responded at approximately 3:41 a.m. on Friday, April 29 to the 2900 block of North Federal Highway.
The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have identified him as 57-year-old Allen Trowbridge, a resident of Fort Lauderdale.
Investigators were able to find photos and surveillance video of the truck they believe was involved. It is a grey, newer model Ford F150 made between 2018 and 2022. It would have damage on the front passenger side, police said.
In the surveillance video, the driver can be seen shortly after the crash getting out of the truck and appearing to check it for damage.
It was truly devastating for the brother of the victim. He was in Florida for his son’s graduation when that time of celebration was cut short by the tragic news.
“It hit him very hard, and he had multiple traumatic injuries,” said Stephen Trowbridge. “Monday morning my son googled his uncle name, my brother’s name, and saw the news story about how he had been killed by a hit and run driver.
“It’s not too late to do the right thing. If it’s the person that sees this that did it, turn yourself in, it’s the right thing to do.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. There is a $5,000 reward being offered for information that leads to an arrest.
