Harris Health’s Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital has been re-designated as a Maternal Level III facility by the Texas Department of State Health Services on Monday.

According to a news release, the three-year recognition places the hospital, part of the Harris Health System, among 44 similarly-designated facilities for their high-quality service and care for new moms and newborns.

LBJ Hospital is already a Level III Neonatal Care facility, the release added.

“Our commitment to high-quality care to our expecting mothers and newborns by our physicians, nurses and the entire healthcare team played a major role in LBJ Hospital achieving this tremendous recognition,” says Patricia Darnauer, executive vice president and administrator of LBJ Hospital in a statement. “Recognitions like this demonstrate our dedication to our patients and community and our pledge to provide excellent healthcare to patients in need.”

The announcement comes after the Texas Legislature adopted new accreditation standards in 2018, as all Texas hospitals must demonstrate expertise and capacity to care for high-risk infants, the release said.
