Carlos Hunter embodies resilience.
He survived
the June crash that killed his 11-year-old son Carlos in Hallandale Beach, but he was injured so severely that he lost both of his legs.
While he has been unable to work, the community turned out to help and donated $76,000 after
Local 10 News report aired, got hundreds of views on YouTube, and thousands of views on Local10.com.
“It’s a wonder! I just want to say thanks to everyone who gave,” Hunter said later adding, “Thank you all so much. Continue to be a blessing. Thank you all again.”
The tragic crash followed his decision to stop to help a driver who was on the side of the road along Hallandale Beach Boulevard. The driver of the stranded Jeep was also killed.
The 32-year-old grieving father needs all the help he can get. He said he is not sure if health insurance will cover the prosthetic legs that he hopes will help him get back to work.
Hunter said Friday would have been his boy’s 12th birthday.
“Tomorrow my family is going something to honor him,” Hunter said.
