It's probably better to go with the idea that's been done since it likely proves there's a market for it.

With existing ideas, you can emulate and study your competition to avoid pitfalls and excel in the areas your competition lacks.

With that being said, you'll need a factor that makes people choose you over them, what exactly would you be able to do better than say - Tesla? Would you be able to provide cheaper choices than them? More advanced technology?
