To start, the origins of capitalism lie in feudalism which developed from slavery. A hierarchy is present in all 3 social systems.

A few months back, I looked into the hot dog cart business, and then I discovered the strict barriers of entry in NYC's hot dog cart business. An absurd amount of time and money is needed to start a food cart - usually in the millions of dollars range, IIRC.

This ties in with the idea of the majority of people in capitalism having to be subordinate to others. Meaning, if the masses of people decided against being employed and decided to be the employers/start a business instead, barriers of entry would arise like in NYC's hot dog operation.
